PRODUCTS – LOCAL AREA NETWORKS – NETWORK LABORATORY
Benchmark Electronic Systems offers three NETWORK LABORATORY configurations based on the LAN-T LAN
trainer and i-SECURIT Network & Data
Security System.
The LAN-T – a patent pending product – jointly
developed with IIT Madras, is being widely used, for the last 15 years, by
customers worldwide, to teach network protocols
and their behavior. i-SECURIT, jointly developed with AU-KBC Research Centre,
ANNA University, is the best solution to impart education in network
security and data protection techniques.
The Benchmark Network Laboratory is a full featured lab system that covers
important topics in computer networks such as protocols behaviour under various
conditions, socket communication techniques and cryptography and network security. It
emulates a real life environment to give a complete feedback to users on
each topic. Since, in most of the experiment
topics, data passes in real time, it undergoes changes because
of errors, impact of speed on protocol, distance between nodes etc., thereby
giving realistic results. The three configurations offered are:
1/ Benchmark Network Lab 1
2/ Benchmark Network Lab 2
3/ Benchmark Network Lab 3
The Benchmark Network Lab 1
Supports 5 groups of 15 students
The Benchmark Network Lab 1 comprises a LAN-T which consists
of a Network Emulator Unit (NEU) which acts as a physical layer; three
Network Interface Cards or Units (NIU) with each NIU card emulating two nodes
in a single PC and acting as MAC & LLC
layers; experimentation software with the source code and C library. Each
LanT emulates a network of 6 nodes with just three computers.
EXPERIMENTS (as per Anna University’s Network
Lab Syllabus)
- 1. PC to PC/peripherals communication
- a. Establish RS232 communication
- b. Establish Parallel port communication
- 2. MAC Layer LAN Protocols
Observe the behaviour & measure the throughput, compare the performance with other MAC Layer protocols.
- a. CSMA/CD at MAC Layer
- b. Token Bus at MAC Layer
- c. Token Ring at MAC Layer
- d. CSMA/CA at MAC Layer
- 3. LLC (Logical Link Control) Layer LAN Protocols
Observe the behaviour & measure the throughput of reliable data transfer protocols. Compare the performance with other LLC Layer protocols.
- a. Stop & Wait at LLC Layer
- b. Sliding Window – Go-Back-N at LLC Layer
- c. Sliding Window – Selective Repeat at LLC Layer
- 4. Routing Algorithm

- a. Distance Vector Routing
- b. Link State Routing
- 5. Introduction to Socket Communication in Linux & Windows
- a. Socket programming concept in Windows & Linux platforms
- b. File Transfer between PCs through sockets
- 6. Study of Data Encryption & Decryption techniques by using them in a File Transfer
